Description
In 1609, more than one hundred passengers and crew sailed aboard the ship Sea Venture. They intended to travel from England to the New World colony begun at Jamestowne in 1607. They expected to arrive within several weeks.
Among the passengers, was 12-year-old Joshua Proctor who looked forward to the voyage as a great adventure. When the ship was rocked by a dangerous storm for several days, Joshua found more adventure than he had imagined. He learned the meaning of the word peril.
Marooned on an island, both passengers and crew were required to work together to survive. Joshua had to learn quickly how to adapt from the crowded streets of London to a land deserted until the travelers on the Sea Venture arrived.
Although some characters in this story are fictional, the story is based on careful research. The survival of the colony at Jamestowne was strongly influenced by what Joshua and his fellow travelers learned.
